IPTV live TV follows a broadcast schedule, but “live” does not mean every viewer sees the same moment at exactly the same time. Delivery, processing and playback buffers can introduce delay. Understanding the difference between live viewing, a programme guide and catch-up helps set realistic expectations.

Why two screens can show different moments

A stream passes through several stages before reaching your display. Different feeds, apps and devices may handle those stages differently. Two people watching the same event through different services can therefore see a goal, announcement or result at different times.

If notifications spoil a live event, consider muting score alerts during viewing. Repeatedly restarting a working stream is not a reliable way to remove delay and may interrupt an otherwise stable picture. Ask the provider whether it offers a supported live-edge or low-delay mode before changing advanced settings.

What the programme guide does

An electronic programme guide, or EPG, displays programme names and scheduled times. It is a navigation aid rather than a guarantee that the underlying stream is available. Check the device clock, time zone and guide-update status when listings appear incorrect.

If only one channel has wrong listings, report that channel and the displayed programme time. If the entire guide is shifted, a device or app time setting may be more relevant. Make one correction at a time and compare the result.

Catch-up is a separate capability

Catch-up lets you start certain previously broadcast programmes when supported by the service and player. Availability may differ by channel, programme and retention period. The presence of yesterday’s guide entries alone does not prove those programmes can be replayed.

During an evaluation, open a specific earlier programme and check whether it starts, whether seeking works and whether the recording covers the complete broadcast. Ask about restrictions before relying on catch-up for something important.

A live-viewing checklist

  • Confirm the exact live channel and regional feed.
  • Compare guide information with the current programme.
  • Test channel changes and recovery after reopening the app.
  • Check available subtitles and audio tracks.
  • Verify catch-up through actual playback where included.
